Talking about emotional resilience & wellbeing on the Flourishing Education podcast

Flourishing Education podcast

I thoroughly enjoyed being a guest on Fabienne Vailes' podcast Flourishing Education. We had a fantastic conversation, talking about all things resilience and wellbeing.

But children are naturally resilient… aren’t they?

So many people assume children are resilient. I'm not quite sure where this assumption has come from! Everyone has a natural level of resilience: some people are naturally very resilient, while others need careful nurturing to develop their resilience. However, facing challenge after challenge tests everyone's resilience. Contrary to what many people believe, resilience is not a fixed state. It can increase or decrease depending on what's happening around us. Given the current situation with the pandemic and the challenges this presents to families and to schools, resilience has become even more vital as a key skill to practise and develop. There are so many opportunities to share lessons about increasing resilience. For many parents, they just aren't quite sure how to do that. That's why I focus on practical tips in my work, which is one of the areas I discuss with Fabienne on this podcast episode.
