Emotion check-in workshop: SJII's Learning for Life Conference

Learning for Life Conference

St Joseph's Institution International (SJI International) hosted another excellent conference in Singapore in September 2019: their Learning for Life Conference. All of the keynotes and workshops focused on the areas of character development, wellbeing and holistic education. I was honoured to be invited to deliver two workshops at the conference following the excellent feedback from my workshops at their Character Development Conference in 2017. This blog focuses on my first workshop, which was to introduce participants to the concept of emotion check-ins.

Why focus on emotion check-ins for educators?

Emotion check-ins provide a very simple and quick but powerful way to gauge students’ feelings on a regular basis. While many educators recognise the important role of students’ emotions in learning, not many of them have received professional development in this area.

Positive feedback

It was brilliant to read the hugely positive feedback from workshop participants. Some examples of the lovely comments from workshop participants are shared below:

“I learnt a lot of activities which I can include in my teaching. You were very enthusiastic. Thank you!”

“ Lots of great strategies-very practical ”
